Dr. Joshua DeWarDr. Joshua DeWar has been selected as principal of Bardstown High School. The Bardstown High School Site-Based Decision Making Council voted to hire DeWar as principal at their December 22nd special called meeting  at the Bardstown High School Media Center.

“Dr. DeWar is an accomplished educator and we are very fortunate to have an individual of his caliber taking the principal reins. He brings many talents to this leadership position including an engaging personality, effective communication skills and, most importantly, an unwavering focus on doing what is best for kids, “ said Dr. Ryan Clark, BCS Superintendent. “I look forward to supporting Dr. DeWar as he works in lockstep with the talented BHS staff and families in their quest to seek opportunities for all students to grow and achieve excellence.”

DeWar, currently in his fourth year as assistant principal of Boston School in Nelson County Schools, has 18 years of teaching and administrative experience in primary, secondary and post secondary education. Before becoming a public school educator DeWar spent 10 years working directly with college students as a director of resident life and housing at Indiana University Southeast and Ripon College.

His work with second grade students earned him state-wide recognition as the 2016 Kentucky State Elementary Teacher of the Year and the 2016 Ashland Teacher Achievement Award Recipient.

“Bardstown City Schools has a strong tradition of excellence and I hope my skills will add to the district’s innovation, “ said Dr. DeWar, BHS Principal-Elect. “My passion is helping students find joy, connection to one another and the opportunities that exist around them. I know that I and the faculty are going to work hand-in-hand to ensure BHS students are ready to take on whatever challenges lie ahead in our ever-evolving world.”

DeWar holds a Bachelor's degree from Ripon College, a Masters degree from the University of Louisville and a Doctoral degree in Philosophy, Educational Administration & Leadership from Marian University. He has his Rank I in Principal, Director of Pupil Personnel and Instructional Leadership from Asbury University. DeWar is also a published author and has contributed to several education journals.

DeWar replaces BHS Principal Chris Pickett who is assuming the role of Director of Pupil Personnel after serving as BHS principal for 12 years. DeWar is expected to assume the role of principal early in the second semester of the current academic year.
