Bardstown Middle School speech and drama team has racked up several team and individual awards at two recent tournaments. The team was one of 20 schools from across the state to compete in Kentucky’s Junior Speech Tournament hosted by the Kentucky High School Speech League virtually February 21-27. They earned fifth place in the state tournament and the following placements for individual performances:

Storytelling
Kaden Stone, first place

Poetry
Kaden Stone, runner-up
Myah Roggentine, semifinalist

Broadcasting
June Bradshaw, first place
Kaden Stone, runner-up
Michelle Hundley, semifinalist

Improvisational Duo
Lucy Gabbert, semifinalist
Lil Johnson, semifinalist
Charley Hill, semifinalist

Kennedy Faulconer, sixth place

Bardstown Middle School Coach Karen Wilson was awarded Coach of the Year. Wilson was awarded this honor by KHSSL. Her fellow coaches voted her as the recipient. Wilson has been the head coach for the Bardstown Middle School speech and drama team for seven years. 

“They have worked very hard for many years and Mrs. Wilson has a whole lot to do with their success,” said Melissa Taylor, principal of Bardstown Middle School. “ When Karen does something she does it 100 percent.”

 

On March 6 the team competed in the Kentucky Educational Speech and Drama Association (KESDA) State Speech Tournament where they were awarded third place in Overall Sweepstakes and second place in Greyhound Sweepstakes. Additionally, the team received individual placements in the following eight categories.

 

Broadcasting

Lil Johnson, seventh place
