(BARDSTOWN, KY) July 18, 2019 ? The Bardstown City Schools (BCS) Department of Exceptional Child Education was awarded a $26,000 grant from the WHAS Crusade for Children.

“We are very grateful to receive funds from the WHAS Crusade for Children,” said Lance Boston, Director of Exceptional Child Education for Bardstown City Schools. “Through their continued support, we are able to serve the needs of our exceptional student population in ways that go above and beyond what is found in most public schools across the nation.”

Through previous grants from the Crusade for Children, BCS has been able to create three multisensory stimulation therapy rooms known as “Snoezelen Rooms”. These Snoezelen Rooms are equipped with lights, swinging chairs and pressure mats to help students with special needs such as autism, learning and/or behavioral problems settle and focus so they can learn.
The funds from this WHAS Crusade for Children grant will help BCS extend this successful sensory program to preschool students at the Bardstown Early Childhood Education Center. Additionally, the grant will be used to renovate the very first Snoezelen Room at Bardstown Primary School. The new Snoezelen Rooms will feature items like a fiber-optic comb, bubble tubes and a multisensory panel that will play music, sound effects and vibrate.

The Snoezelen Rooms are expected to be completed by the fall of 2019.

“None of this would be possible without a school community that strives to give back to the Crusade for Children each year through our various fundraising efforts and a supportive Board of Education that allows us to dream big,” said Boston.
