Student showcases pet bed
On Monday, December 10th the Bardstown Alternative School (BAS) delivered 10 beds and 14 blankets to Barktown Rescue for their current residents.

Over the last several months Mr. Shuck and his students have been making blankets and beds in hopes of making the animals feel safe, relaxed and well-fed while they are at the shelter.

While at Barktown Rescue, students went on a facility tour with Nicole Klapheke, Vice President of Barktown Rescue, interacted with animals and even had an opportunity to ask questions. Junior Chyenne M. was ecstatic to finally meet Zucchini the cat in person.

Through this community service project students are focusing on the four c’s creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.

"Students are sewing, cutting a fabric pattern, and stuffing a fabric sleeve with poly fill," said Todd Shucks, BAS teacher. "The project requires students to lean on each and ask their peers for assistance. Specifically, if they are struggling with one aspect of the project."

The project was made possible through a mini-grant from the Bardstown Foundation for Excellence in Public Education.
