Brittany Alvey named Assistant Principal at Bardstown Elementary School

Paul Bowling, principal of Bardstown Elementary School, in consultation with the BES Site-Based Decision Making Council, has named Brittany Alvey as the school’s assistant principal beginning with the 2017-2018 school year.

In making the announcement, Mr. Bowling cited Alvey’s experience and training with the DuFours PLC (Professional Learning Community) process, her strong knowledge of elementary curriculum, and her high level of organization as key in her selection for the position. “I am confident that Mrs. Alvey will help us continue the positive momentum that we have built over the past few years,” he said.

Regarding her appointment, Mrs. Alvey said, “I thoroughly enjoy teaching, but am now ready and eager to serve the school and our students in a broader capacity. I have always been passionate about the curriculum, instruction, and assessment component of education and I couldn't be more excited to step into a position which allows me to focus on these same aspects of education, but in a role which will enable me to grow as a support and resource to others.”

Ms. Alvey comes to this new position with nine years of teaching experience, including the most recent three years as a fifth grade teacher at Bardstown Elementary. Prior to coming to Bardstown, Alvey taught second, fourth, and fifth grades at New Haven School. While at New Haven, she held several leadership positions including Teacher Representative on the Site-Based Council, Superintendent’s Advisory Council representative, and was a member of the New Haven School Leadership Committee, among others.

Since coming to Bardstown, Alvey has served on the school’s Site Based Council, is the 5th grade leader of the math PLC, and is a member of the district’s Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Team.

Alvey grew up in the community of Loretto and attended Marion County Schools. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Georgetown College. She went on to obtain her Master of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of the Cumberlands as well as her Endorsement as a Literacy Specialist. Alvey received her Rank I in Instructional Leadership in 2013, also from the University of the Cumberlands.

Alvey and her husband, Kyle, have a two-year-old daughter and live in Bardstown.
