Dear BMS Students and Families,

Bardstown Middle School will open our doors to in-person learning on Tuesday, September 8th.  The staff at BMS is very excited about this opportunity and eager to meet our students in-person.  As we continue to navigate through an unprecedented global event your patience and support is greatly appreciated.  The information below may help as you make decisions regarding our In-Person and Online Learning options.

General Information:

  • All students and staff will be required to wear masks at all times while in the building.

  • Students that have been issued a Chromebook by BMS must bring this device fully charged and ready to utilize throughout the school day.  Students must also bring their charger.

  • Students that have not received a school issued Chromebook may bring and use a device from home.

  • Temperature checks will be conducted as students arrive at school, from inside the cars (if they are car riders), and as they get off the school bus.  Students with a temperature greater than 100.4 will not be allowed to stay at school.

  • Students will not be assigned lockers.

  • Students will stay with their assigned homeroom class throughout most of the school day.  As we begin to transition from class to class, students will travel with this set group of students.

  • Students will only change classes for their Activity Period.

  • Online learning is still an option for students and will occur through the current Google Classroom format we used during NTI.  Any changes in meeting times or general expectations will be communicated through Google Classrooms.

    • Students/families that select the Online Learning Option will need to continue with the online learning through the end of the first quarter which ends on October 16th.

    • Students that attend school next Tuesday will be opted in for the In-Person Learning Option, however, if a family decides at any point that they’d like to revert to online learning they may do so.

When will BMS open doors for student arrival?

  • Students may arrive at school between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM.

  • Any student arriving prior to 8:00 AM will need to remain in the supervision of their parents or guardian.

  • Our doors will open at 8:00 AM and students will be allowed to pick up a “Grab and Go” breakfast if desired, then report immediately to their homeroom class.

What should students bring to school?

  • Bring ONLY the essential school supplies listed below:

    • School assigned chromebook, if you have one, completely charged and ready for the day.

    • Personal device completely charged and ready for the day if you have not been assigned a Chromebook from school

    • Calculator (allowed not required)

    • Water bottle for personal use

    • Earbuds/Headphones

    • Paper and Pen/Pencil

    • Mechanical Pencils or own personal pencil sharpeners

    • A sports bag is allowed if the student participates in a school practice immediately after school

Can students carry a backpack?

  • All students will be provided a Bardstown Middle School backpack with a chromebook pocket, courtesy of BMS PTO, for the essential school supplies listed above.

  • Students will not be assigned lockers due to contact tracing and surface sanitation concerns.

What will classes look like and how will students change classes?

  • Unfortunately classes WILL NOT look or function like classrooms prior to the pandemic due to safety measures put in place to limit the spread of COVID 19.

  • Students will continue to be supported and engaged in thoughtful and relevant learning activities.

  • For the first week of in-person learning, students will report to and remain in their homeroom class or another specified class period for the majority of the school day.  As students adjust to and learn new expectations, class transitions will increase.

  • Students at school will participate in their already established Google Classroom for all classes but with assistance from one or more of their regularly scheduled teachers.

  • Students encountering problems will be able to seek help from specific teachers as needed.

  • All students will go to their assigned activity class.  Classes will be escorted or closely supervised to and from activity class.

When and how will students be dismissed at the end of the day?

    • The instructional day officially ends at 3:25 PM.

    • BMS will load buses one at a time as they arrive at school starting at 3:10 PM.

    • Students will be expected to exit school promptly when their bus number is called.

    • Walkers will be released at 3:25 PM.
