Melissa Taylor, principal of Bardstown Middle School, in consultation with a school-based selection committee, has named Kevin Payton as the school’s assistant principal beginning with the 2018-2019 school year.

In making the announcement, Ms. Taylor cited Mr. Payton’s depth of experience as a middle school teacher, assistant principal, and principal, which will enable him to make an immediate impact at Bardstown Middle School.  “Mr. Payton has a great desire to work with middle school students as well as a genuine passion to build relationships with the young people in our community,” said Taylor.

Payton received his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Indiana University School of Education in 1998 and his Master’s degree in 2005, also in Secondary Education, from Indiana University Southeast. He obtained his Master of Arts in Education/Institutional Leadership in 2011 from the University of the Cumberlands.

Mr. Payton comes to Bardstown Middle School from his position as principal of Nelson County’s New Haven School, a position he has held since 2016.  He previously served as New Haven School’s assistant principal for four years.  Prior to pursuing administration, Mr. Payton taught 8thgrade social studies at Bloomfield Middle School. Payton began his teaching career at Scottsburg Middle School as a 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher.

“I am excited to join the Bardstown School System as the middle school’s assistant principal,” said Payton.  “Bardstown City Schools has a tradition of excellence and I look forward to working with the great staff at the middle school.  I am eager to get started helping the students of Bardstown Middle school grow to their fullest potential and become the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

Payton and his wife, Beth, live in Bardstown. The Payton’s have two children, Zayne and Emme, who attend Bardstown City Schools.
