Saving the world, one child at a time!!

My name is Laura Gabbert and I am a special education teacher with a focus on Autism and other social and behavioral disabilities. I have been with Bardstown City Schools since 2006 and I am getting ready to begin my 10th year of teaching! Wooohooo!!! I have special education experience in preschool through high school and truly love working with kids of all ages!

In 2001, I graduated from Bardstown High School and moved to the northern panhandle of West Virginia to attend a small liberal arts college, Bethany College. I graduated with honors and distinction earning a Bachelors degree in Social Work in 2005. Directly following graduation, I moved to Louisville and obtained a Masters in Social Work from the Kent School of Social Work with a School Social Work specialization. During my studies I found an emptiness in public schools for people with a knowledge and understanding of troubled and challenging children. In 2006,  I began a 2nd masters program in Behavioral and Learning Disabilities and my love and passion for kids has only grown since. My heart belongs to those kids that are typically "misunderstood" and I work hard to model positive behavior to all the students, teachers, assistants, administrators and of course the parents that I have the joy to work with.  I have had several awesome opportunities to speak to other professionals about Positive Behavioral Supports and Strategies including professional development trainings at various schools and the Behavior Institute.

My husband and I have been married for 7 years and both of our parents also live in Bardstown. My husband is a man who also dedicates his life to helping children in need and together I think we make a pretty awesome team! We have 2 children of our own, Lucy Star and Calvin, ages 6 and 4. We live very holistically and try to keep our bodies and our Earth healthy and happy.

When working with your child, please know that I will love them, have expectations of them, and will need you (the parent) to be involved in their education plan. I want to help children as much as I want to help parents gain confidence on how to raise their strong willed child. I believe that working as a team, that we can make the best plan to help your child succeed. Thank you in advance for trusting me with one of your most precious gifts. Feel free to contact me by phone or email anytime!!! I love life and I look forward to all of my future adventures at BPS!
